MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A father of two is murdered in Madison Heights. It happened just after midnight Friday at the President Madison Apartments. Investigators think this may have started as an attempted robbery.
Fox 2's Maurielle Lue talked to the victim's family. Click on the video player to watch her live report.
Clarence Hammond, 33, was wearing his Michigan Department of Corrections uniform when he was shot and killed. He worked at the Macomb County Correctional Facility.
According to the family, he and his girlfriend parked their car but there was already a light colored minivan parked with the doors open. The family says a gunman got out and tried to rob the couple. He hit Clarence in the head with the gun and then shot him once. He died just steps away from his front door.
In the end, the suspects didn't take anything. Police are following leads. So far, no arrests.
