DETROIT (AP) - Ian Kinsler hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh as the Detroit Tigers swept a three-game series against Cleveland by beating the Indians 6-4 yesterday. Kinsler went deep off reliever Bryan Shaw to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Detroit added two more runs on a wild pitch and a fielder's choice.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Cam Newton threw for 281 yards and a touchdown in the Carolina Panthers' 24-7 victory over the Detroit Lions yesterday. Newton was 22 of 34 and overcame four sacks. Carolina started 2-0 for the first time since 2008. Matthew Stafford threw for 291 yards with one touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked four times.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Derrick Green was one of the nation's top running back recruits when he signed with Michigan last year. The now-sophomore is beginning to show what all the fuss was about. Green ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns Saturday. The Wolverines outgained the RedHawks 460-198. Green has already rushed for 332 yards this season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was inactive for yesterday's game against the Detroit Lions. Hardy was convicted July 15 of assault on a female and communicating threats. Carolina's sitting of Hardy comes in the wake of personal conduct incidents involving Baltimore's Ray Rice and Minnesota's Adrian Peterson.
