
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers beat Detroit 11-8 last night, despite three home runs from Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera. David Murphy put the Rangers ahead with a three-run shot in the sixth. Cabrera finished with four hits and five RBIs for the Tigers.
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings look to go up 2-1 in their second-round series tonight when they face the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings evened the series at 1-all with a 4-1 victory on Saturday. Detroit rookies Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist, and first-year player Damien Brunner all have game-winning goals this postseason.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Jason Vargas pitched seven scoreless innings yesterday to lead the Los Angeles Angels past the Chicago White Sox 6-2. Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick both hit two-run doubles for the Angels, who earned a split of the 4-game series. Jake Peavy took the loss after giving up four runs and walking five in six innings.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Justin Masterson struck out 11 batters over seven shutout innings yesterday as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-0. Michael Brantley homered and drove in four runs for the Indians. Mariners starter Felix Hernandez failed to go at least six innings for the first time this season.
