New Lion Cubs Make Debut in San Diego

Here's your first peek at some new arrivals in San Diego:

This  couple of cuddly cubs curled up together in their play area on Monday at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

They were only born on December 6th, but their mother, Oshana, wasn't caring for then properly, so the park staff is giving them additional car, feeding the brother and sister bottles of formula every two hours.

The female cub now weighs three and a half pounds and her brother a hefty five and a half pounds after their morning feeding.

Members of the public can see the adorable duo for a couple of hours a day, between 10am and noon at the Safari Park animal care center.  But the cubs average about 20 hours of sleep a day, so don't count on catching them awake!

Zoo staff plans to keep them together and will train them to be lions together.  They will continue to have their health monitored.
