Taryn Asher

Since joining FOX 2 News in September 2007, I've been enjoying a career dream come true. Covering breaking news and crime, joining my colleagues in live team coverage, while also helping people with the Problem Solvers, are all reasons I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. And I get to pursue that passion for uncovering the truth and reporting the facts nightly on FOX 2 News at 10.

Growing up in Fenton, in Livingston County, attending Powers Catholic High School in Flint and then later while attending Michigan State, I was able to watch newscasts from three markets-- Detroit, Flint and Lansing. It seems only fitting then that my career path took me through all three cities in my first ten years in television. Before joining FOX 2, I was the 5:00 p.m. anchor and lead investigative reporter for ABC12 News in Flint. And prior to that I was the noon anchor and a live reporter for NewsCenter 6 in Lansing.

This career trajectory worked out well for my personal life, too! While in Flint I met the man who is now my husband and my co-worker, FOX 2 News feature reporter Jason Carr. We met as weekend morning co-anchors at ABC12, and now seven years later we joke that being on-camera together at the same station was just meant to be. Jason and I (and our dog Sami) are proud to call Royal Oak our home.

In 2006 I was fortunate to receive an Emmy Award for investigative reporting, for looking into the cause of a deadly natural gas explosion in Shiawassee County that killed several members of a family. The story included a strong message of safety awareness for other families. It has also been my honor to receive awards from the Associated Press and Michigan Association of Broadcasters, most recently for an investigative story I did in exposing corruption within the Flint mayor's Citizens Service Bureau.

While I'm not working, I love to travel, practice yoga, run, play golf, and spend time entertaining friends and family.
