SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - A Detroit radio duo is making a comeback. The Drew and Mike Show is returning to the morning drive after nearly a two year hiatus, and Drew Lane is ready to get back to work.

"We just know how to make each other laugh and we enjoy the same things," said Lane. Jon and Kate are splitting up and we're getting back together."

Drew Lane left WRIF-FM (101.1) and one of metro Detroit's most successful radio shows in September 2007. His girlfriend was battling breast cancer at the time, and Lane says he was simply burned out after 16 years of the daily morning radio grind. "Like a moron, I was overwhelmed," he said.

However, it did not take long for Lane to realize what he was missing. "After a couple months, it was bad. I just felt like... the whole world's churning. The show's doing this and that, and I'm not part of it," said Lane.

After a year and a half of soul searching and sitting on the couch, Lane decided it was time to go back. WRIF announced on Tuesday that he will be returning to the airwaves on July 13. Lane says he is looking forward to joining the crew and, of course, commenting on all the controversial news he missed while he was gone.

"I'm pretty excited. I was watching a video of Monica Conyers stuffing her face and complaining about the media, and I just thought, oh boy, let me at her," Lane said.

For the loyal listeners worried about a change of format or secret stunts, Lane says there is no reason for concern. He and Mike Clark plan on picking up where they left off. "It will be the same old crap. I promise you that," he said.

A radio gig and contract Lane says he appreciates now more than ever. "I wondered how long do I have to do this? It was sort of like any job and that's not like any job. It's a lot of fun, and I don't feel that way at all now. It's like, gee, when do I get to go to work? Kind of like the first day of school or something," he said.
