Waterford, Mich., July 7, 2010 --- Christopher, 11 years old from Highland, is excited to represent the Rainbow Connection at the 11th Annual Quake on the Lake Inboard Hydroplane Races July 15-18 on Pontiac Lake in White Lake/Waterford Townships.
The Rainbow Connection makes dreams come true for Michigan children with life threatening illnesses. When Christopher is well enough to travel, his wish to visit a tropical destination will come true. Christopher, diagnosed with a Wilms tumor at Childrens Hospital in November, enjoys many interests including the athletic rivalry between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. His favorite subject in school is math at which he excels.
The Quake on the Lakes mission is to create an exciting summertime destination for the region while raising money for local charities, said Dale Hampshire, Quake on the Lake Chairman. When you become a fan of the Quake, not only do you enjoy world record, high speed racing on the water, you make a difference by supporting many wonderful organizations. Over the past four years, the Quake has raised more than $50,000 for the Rainbow Connection in addition to supporting numerous grass root initiatives.
The Rainbow Connections goal is to reach every child in Michigan who suffers from a life threatening illness and make their wishes come true, said Mary Grace McCarter, Rainbows executive director. We are proud that Rainbow has never turned a child away and have always found a way to make their wish come true. Of course, we have not had a child ask to go to the moon…yet!
Quake On The Lake will also feature a carnival, giant midway and live on stage performances by national recording artists The Tubes, Night Ranger and Mark Farner, former lead singer of Grand Funk Railroad. Friday, July 16th is FREE Concert Day. Additionally, fans can download a FREE concert voucher from www.QuakeOnTheLake.org for Saturday, July 17th to attend the concert after 5 pm for FREE.
