Detroit Municipal Parking Department (MPD) officials have issued a parking advisory for the general public for the annual fireworks display on Monday, June 21. Motorists are advised to observe posted parking restrictions. Parking violators will be ticketed, and vehicles towed.

To individuals attending the fireworks, the Municipal Parking Department will open City-owned garages and lots. The facilities and prices are:

  • Cobo Hall Garage, 475 Washington Boulevard $10
  • Cobo Roof, 625 W. Congress $10
  • Ford Underground Garage, 30 E. Jefferson $10
  • Joe Louis Arena Garage, 900 W. Jefferson $10
  • Millennium Garage, 432 W. Congress $10
  • Premier Garage, 1206-08 Woodward Avenue $10
  • Cadillac/Farmer Lot, 1025 Farmer $10

All rates are for all day. Fireworks viewing is prohibited from any parking facility rooftop.

Fireworks spectators also can use the Detroit People Mover as they select a location to view the Fireworks. All thirteen Detroit People Mover (DPM) stations will be open.

The DPM operates from 6:30 a.m. until midnight; however, closing time may be briefly extended until the majority of the crowd is disbursed from the area. The nearest People Mover stations to Hart Plaza are:

  • Millender Center (Larned and E. Jefferson)
  • Financial District (Larned between Griswold and Shelby)
  • Joe Louis Arena (600 Civic Center Drive)
  • Cobo Center (1 Washington Boulevard)

People Mover stations are well-lit and vehicles are climate-controlled. Twelve of the 13 DPM stations are fully handicap-accessible; the Grand Circus Park Station is stairway-accessible only. Patrons requiring elevators or escalators in that area may board or exit at either the Broadway or Times Square stations.

Fare is 50 cents each way and children ages five and under ride free. For more information, call 313-224-2160 during normal business hours, or visit www.thepeoplemover.com .
