SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - Halloween is tons of fun for kids and even some adults, but not necessarily for pets. Strangers, unusual noises and odd costumes could cause your pet to actually run away.
Corrine Martin from the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society told us keeping identification on your pets is important.
"It's one of the times of the year when we find the most lost animals in the shelters," she said. "If they have just a simple identification tag on they can get back home."
What sort of information should you put on a pet ID tag? Martin suggested simply a phone number where you can be reached.
She also told us the story of a 13-year-old teacup chihuahua the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society adopted out in 2000. Around a month ago, the dog was found wandering the streets of Detroit. The chihuahua had an identification tag, but GPAAS was unable to contact its owner and they found the dog's home abandoned.
If you would like more information on this chihuahua, you can contact the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society at (313) 884-1551.
