Michigan's Lieutenant Governor-elect is making an emotional plea for autism reform.
Calley sent his Senate colleagues a five minute videotaped message urging them to approve autism reform during next week's lame duck legislative session.
"I'm speaking up for my daughter, but even as a person who know what these things are like. I'm speaking up for a whole population of people who are struggling today mostly in silence through the day-to-day life of a family with autism," Representative Brian Calley said in the video.
The issue is close to Calley's heart because, as he told FOX 2 last week, his three-year-old daughter has autism.
"It's the right thing to do. I mean, it's a moral imperative that we fix this, but beyond that, if that's not enough for you, it saves the taxpayers literally billions of dollars. It's the fiscally conservative thing to do," he said.
Autism insurance reform passed the state House last year, but will die if the Senate doesn't act.
