A conference called "Autism: Biomedical Treatments -- Care and Options" is planned for Saturday, February 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Baronette Hotel in Novi.
Five medical professionals will be speaking at the event about biomedical therapies that are currently available for those living with an autism spectrum disorder.
Topics that will be discussed include food allergies and treatments, living a gluten-free and casein-free diet, choosing the right supplements and environmental and genetic influences.
Autism Ask, one of the largest autism treatment centers in Southeast Michigan, will be participating in the conference, which is sponsored by Health Dimensions Specialty Pharmacy of Farmington Hills.
"This is such an important conference because many caregivers of people with autism travel out of our state seeking help and treatment," said Stephanie Harlan, Autism ASK co-founder and director of Clinical Services. "Although these pursuits offer hope and solutions for some, we believe there are equal therapies right here in Michigan. Together with Health Dimensions, we can help families save money on travel costs, as well as educate them on the number and type of services and therapies available in their own backyard."
The cost to attend the conference is $98, which includes a gluten-free buffet lunch, an electronic copy of the discussion notes and a post-event networking session.
