Doctors are stunned by promising test results that show one drug may help treat two of the biggest problems in our country -- heart disease and diabetes. Researchers say it's unlike anything they've ever seen.
According to the Ohio State University Medical Center, alogliptin lowered blood sugar and blood pressure, as well as reduced cholesterol and inflammation in lab tests. There was also less plaque build up in the arteries.
"It was pretty striking. I think what we were surprised by was the magnitude of benefit. There was a significant reduction in plaque," said Dr. Sanjay Rajagopalan.
