Researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield are conducting a study to determine whether 3D ultrasound technology along with routine mammogram screening can do a better job of finding breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue.
Dense breast tissue often makes it tough to find tumors using standard screening tools like mammography.
This ultrasound technology allows radiologists to create a 3D image of both breasts in about six minutes. Sound waves are used to create 3D pictures of breast tissue.
Henry Ford is currently looking for women to get involved in this study. To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
Patients who are at high risk due to family history or proven genetic mutation are not precluded from participation in this study. Cancer survivors, women with breast implants and those who have known benign abnormalities such as cysts or fibroadenoma, may also participate if they meet the inclusion criteria.
To participate in the Henry Ford study, contact Melaney Aschenbrenner at (248) 325-3856 or MASCHEN1@hfhs.org.
