myFOXDetroit.com Staff - The Oakland County prosecutor is blasting the Ferndale Police Department over disputes involving warrants for criminal charges. While the police chief says his staff handled the cases properly and professionally.
Last week, Fox 2 aired a story about a domestic violence case that Jessica Cooper chose not to prosecute. It involved a woman who was 7 months pregnant and had her eye socket and nose broken.
Police sought charges against the woman's husband but Cooper denied the warrant. In a conversation that was taped and later released to Fox 2, Cooper said it appeared the woman started it.
Cooper eventually sent a letter to the Ferndale City Council denouncing the leadership of the Police Department for releasing the audio tapes. Fox 2 acquired them through the Freedom Of Information Act. Cooper also defended her decision not to prosecute and accused police of leaking the information to Fox 2.
Chief Michael Kitchen said that just wasn't the case and wants a judge to mediate the situation.
Fox 2's Bill Gallagher is working to get to the bottom of the story.
