myFOXDetroit.com Staff - The Obama Administration is urging Egypt to lift travel restrictions on several US citizens immediately.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's son is one of the Americans trapped in the country right now.

Sam LaHood, who serves as the Director of the Egyptian program for the International Republican Institute was told he was on a "no-fly list" when he attempted to leave Cairo a week ago.

That list was created after a raid on the offices of US backed groups monitoring recent elections in Egypt.

LaHood and the others aren't technically being detained but they're worried arrest warrants could be issued.

Right now, the State Department is working to get the travel restrictions lifted. We caught up with Secretary LaHood at an event on Saturday night at the Henry Ford in Dearborn.

He says he has been in contact with his son and that he's doing okay. LaHood added that the government is doing everything it can to bring him home safely.

Egypt's military alone gets 1.3 billion dollars in aid a year from the US.

Some lawmakers are now calling on the government to cut-off that aid until problems in Egypt are rectified.
