DETROIT (myFOXDetroit.com) - Imagine facing years of dialysis and eventually death, only to have the person closest to your heart give you a kidney. A remarkable, metro Detroit couple is exchanging more than just wedding vows.
This inspirational story comes to you from St. John Hospital in Detroit.
She is 27-year-old Janise Chang. He is 27-year-old Cher Kue. Together, this Roseville couple is a hand-holding testament to the power of love and sacrifice, the art of selflessness.
We asked Cher how it made him feel holding Janise's hand after the operation. He replied, "Very different. Look at her in a whole new light. My guardian angel."
Janise gave her husband-to-be one of her kidneys. That's right, they are engaged and they have a son together. She says there was never any doubt.
"The way I see it is if you love someone there is no hesitation. You just do whatever you can," said Chang.
If you're wondering, the jokes have been made about a prenuptial agreement. Even their doctor says, "I think he better stick with her now because I would hate to see what a kidney goes for in court."
"With Janise coming forward, that saved him six years of being on dialysis," said Dr. Darla Granger.
Not to mention his life. Janise says if you decide to donate, have the courage of your convictions.
"Just don't let anybody talk you out of it. If you feel this is something that you do want to do, then just go for it and believe in what you want to do," Chang said.
Janise and Cher are tying the knot just as soon as both are back on their feet.
