HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) - A homeowner in Hamtramck falls victim to thieves. They stole a generator out of her yard, and she desperately needs it back. It could be a matter of life and death.
Caroline Habucke loves her brother, and he depends on her for everything. He's bedridden, and his sister has been taking care of him for nearly 18 years.
"He's had eight strokes, three heart attacks. He's blind. He's paralyzed. He can't speak," said Habucke.
The feeding tube, nebulizer and all of the equipment Caroline relies on for her brother's care runs on electricity. So, she bought a backup generator in case of a power outage because without it, her brother would die.
"Why? Why take that? Take anything, but why did you have to take his generator? I bought it for him," Habucke said. "It's his life. Without it, he won't make it."
Caroline believes it happened late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. She came outside to let the dogs out, and then she noticed that her generator was gone.
"If you needed something, come to my door and ask me. But why take that? Why? He needs it," said Habucke.
Caroline believes it had to be more than one man that jumped the fence. The generator was chained to a ladder and a gate, but whoever took it cut the lock.
Caroline and her brother live on a fixed income. They can't afford another $500 to buy a new generator. So, to the thieves that stole it, Caroline says, "Bring me my generator back. That's all I want. I need it for (my brother). I desperately need it for (my brother)... because without it he won't last."
