Detroit International Jazz Festival Happens Labor Day Weekend

The Detroit International Jazz Festival is returning for its 31st year. The free event takes place Labor Day weekend (Friday, September 3rd through Monday, September 6th) in downtown Detroit from Campus Martius Park to Hart Plaza.

Performances will happen on five stages in total. There is also a tent featuring children’s activities.

Some of the artists that will be performing include pianist Mulgrew Miller, saxophonist Bradford Marsalis, Maria Schneider and her orchestra, drummer Roy Haynes, and trumpeter Terence Blanchard. Click here to see the entire lineup.

Festival hours are 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, noon to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and noon to 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

The event, which has a $90-million impact on Detroit, is the largest free jazz festival in North America. Over 20-percent of attendees come from out of state.
