(myFOXDetroit.com Staff Reports) - If you're looking for an up-close-and-personal interaction with animals, head to the Detroit Zoo for the Prairie Dog exhibit. It allows visitors to go through underground tunnels to join in and be apart of the exhibit.
According to Zoo Director Ron Kagan, Prairie Dogs are not dogs, but rodents that can weigh 2-4 pounds and live up to eight years in captivity. Prairie dogs stand upright and barks a warning if danger approaches. The prairie dog "town" exists mostly below ground. This complex burrow system features many different rooms including food storage areas and sleeping rooms. They are very social so make sure to bring a camera to catch them nuzzling and kissing.
