ROYAL OAK, Mich. - 98.7 AMP Radio has spent the last month collecting gently used prom, homecoming and bridesmaid dresses for teenage girls who may not be able to afford one. This Sunday, April 3, 98.7 AMP Radio will host Gown Town as they present the dresses at the Douglas J. Aveda Institute in Royal Oak from noon to 4 p.m.
Participants will be able to select the dress of their choice and keep them at no cost.
Listeners of 98.7 AMP Radio have donated more than 200 dresses. In addition, Huntington Cleaners in Berkley, picked up and cleaned all the dresses.
The station created Gown Town to help our listeners in need and to help make sure that any girl who wants to experience prom can, said Debbie Kenyon, Vice-President and Market Manager of CBS Radio Detroit. "We are proud of our listeners for their gown donations and their generosity. We doubled our donation goal and we are happy to be able to help even more girls than we expected!"
Other organizations across the U.S. have been running similar programs to help less fortunate girls get prom dresses, which can easily cost $200. In addition to the cost of prom tickets, and getting ready for the big night, the entire evening can be cost-prohibitive for some families.
98.7 AMP Radio asks that parents, neighbors, teachers and principals spread the word about Sundays Gown Town so that every girl has a prom to remember.
