Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel and attorney Patrick Simasko have teamed up for "Bakes and Barks," which aims to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association and Teacher's Pet, a program that pairs at-risk youth with shelter dogs in a ten week obedience workshop.
The Alzheimer's Association is a local non-profit that provides assistance to patients and their families.
Canines will be competing in various events, including a costume contest and an obstacle course. The "bakes" will be provided by finalists from 20 senior communities in Macomb County, who will be competing for awards like Best Dessert and Best Cookie.
Pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs.
There is a $5 vehicle admission fee for the event, and donations will be accepted. The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 12th.
