myFOXDetroit.com Staff Reports

The Michigan First Time Camper Program gives people the opportunity to experience camping without the need to purchase expensive equipment. The package includes camping gear and guides for a two night stay at select Michigan State Parks.

On Sunday, July 25, Dave Lorenz from Travel Michigan will appear on FOX 2 News Weekend during the 8:00 a.m. hour to talk about the program.

When campers arrive, they will be walked through the process of setting up camp by a park representative. Gear that will be provided by Gander Mountain includes a tent, tarp, two camp chairs, a flashlight, a lantern, a stove, four hot dog/marshmallow cookers and two fishing poles. Participants will not be able to keep the gear, but discounts will be offered by Gander Mountain.
