Two people, a man and a woman in their 60's, died in the fire. One of the victims was found on the stairs trying to get out. Firefighters rescued an elderly person and a child from the burning home. The fire broke out in the basement. The cause is under investigation. Arson investigators and Detroit Police homicide investigators were called to the scene Saturday night. There were also reports of an unruly crowd. Detroit Police tell us it took officers 13 minutes to get there. They say considering travel time and other emergencies in the city that night, the response time was acceptable.
