For Detroit firefighters, the job is more than just earning a living. Every time they get behind-the-wheel of an engine, they are putting their lives on the line for the city they love.
Telling their story like never before, Detroit's heroes opened up for the trailer to "BURN".
For David Parnell, a veteran of the fire department, the task of tackling burning buildings is only half the issue.
"I help somebody without having to know who it was, why it was, when it was," he said.
"from detroitfire.org : We produced our 10-minute trailer for PBS a few months ago, and there’s interest in the project both as a series and as a feature documentary.
But, while broadcasters move slowly, Detroit’s story is happening NOW. And we don’t want to miss it. We’re looking to raise $90,000 so we can start production on the film as soon as possible.
So we’re asking YOU to be the first one in.
Please donate $10 or more if you can to the production using this link so that we can continue filming this important and timely story. If you agree with us that this story must be told, please tell your friends, families, church groups and local firehouses as well.
Your donation is tax deductible through the International Documentary Association and your information will not be sold or shared in any way.
Your donation will bring this important project to life — and you (or your business, church, or firehouse) will receive a credit on the DVD.
We are also interested to talk about primary investors and corporate sponsorships.
If you have any questions or comments , we’d love to hear from you."
The other side is the social issues fueling the flames -- abandoned homes, homelessness and a declining economy.
"How can I be so angry with somebody that I would throw a Molotov cocktail? How can I be so bored to where I could actually start a fire," Parnell pondered.
"The average age of our fire department is over 42 and a half years old. This is a young person's job," said Dan McNamara with the firefighter's union.
Produced by native Detroiter Brenna Sanchez, the trailer is now being shopped around to networks in hopes of creating a full scale documentary. One that tells the story of a once triumphant Motor City facing massive hurdles, but not giving up.
