SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - Pastor Terry Jones' planned demonstration outside a Dearborn mosque on Good Friday never happened. After spending all day in court, he chose jail over paying a one dollar bond.
"Governments cannot put a price on free speech in anticipation of what a counter protest may do," said Rana Elmir with the ACLU.
"I can express it at the courthouse, at McDonald's, at the mosque. I'm not limited in my freedom of expression. That's the issue," said Rabbi Nachum Shifren.
A jury decided the pastor's planned protest would breach the peace, but should Jones have been hauled into court in the first place? Was free speech squashed?
Joining FOX 2's Huel Perkins and Charlie Langton on the panel to discuss are Dearborn Mayor John O'Reilly, Jr., Council on American Islamic Relations Executive Director Dawud Walid and attorney Carl Marlinga.
