SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - Crime Stoppers of Michigan received a record number of tips in July.
The crime fighting organization got 611 tips in July 2011 compared to 347 tips in July 2010.
15-percent of the tips were from Ann Arbor where there has been a series of attacks on women recently.
"We owe it all to the community," said John Broad, president of Crime Stoppers of Michigan. "Our citizens are increasingly taking responsibility for reducing crime in metro Detroit. The record heat in July may have contributed to the increase in tips with more people being outside and observing more activity on the streets."
Crime Stoppers encourages people to anonymously report information about crimes by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You could receive a cash reward if your anonymous tip leads to an arrest. Rewards are $2,500 for unsolved homicides and $1,000 for other felony crimes.
