SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - It's been nearly two years since a 20-year-old woman was gunned down inside her boyfriend's car. Her family is now teaming up with Crime Stoppers hoping for justice.
Lakesha Kirkland was killed in the early hours of September 20, 2009. She was sitting with her boyfriend in the back of his black Dodge Magnum on Whitcomb and Puritan in Detroit.
That's when someone in a blue Dodge Ram pulled out an AK-47 and opened fire. Kirkland was hit in the head and killed.
"We're hoping that someone may know someone in the area that may own the truck, so they don't necessarily have had to seen the crime, but just the mere fact that they know someone in the area that owns that type of truck. We certainly welcome them to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP," said Sergeant Kenny Gardner with Detroit Police Homicide.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest. If that tip comes in on August 10, they will increase the total to $3,500.
