Detroit Needs Parks, Bowling Alleys and Mass Transit

Fox 2 Viewer Commentary - My story can be traced back to a 1840 census report listing my Great Great Grandfather, Washington Lomax as a free Negro between the ages of 24 - 36. His son, Edward S. Lomax and his wife were credited with starting a school that trained teachers, his sons Roger and Eugene founded a Hospital in Buckingham County Va. others went on to teach, become census takers all of this is documented in books by Katie Lomax and Charles W. White.

What was great about Detroit?

As teenagers going downtown and and meeting friends under the Kern Clock. Belle Isle Picnics, swimming at the beach going to Jefferson Park, Edgewater Park, fraternity parties and most of all the beautiful landscaped trees that made an arch over your street that made the summers cooler and most of all we never locked our doors. and a HS diploma was the equivalence of a 2-year junior college course.

What is great about Detroit?

The walking paths along the river front Hart Plaza Cobo Hall, Casinos Comerica Park. We have had some shaky times but I am hopeful that things will be looking up as long as we all work together for positive changes.

What is your idea to make Detroit great?

Create more parks in the city, put a limit on the party stores near schools, add a mass transit system, bowling alleys and more businesses to enable jobs to become available in our city for residents
