DETROIT (WJBK) - There's a park in the city's North End neighborhood where cussing costs you $2. Wear your pants below your waist and you'll be shelling out $3. And don't even think about cracking a beer on its grounds.

Who's watching over this park? None other than an 80-year-old community activist who neighbors say means business, but at the same time, gives from the bottom of her heart.

Delores Bennett has lived in the North End near Beaubien and Smith for years. During that time, she's fed hungry children, provided shelter for the homeless and made sure that her streets are kept clean.

"Believe me, she means business," said Ernest Greene.

Her method has inspired those around her. Former neighbor and Lakeshore Development President Tom Hardaway, adopted the park near Bennett's house and named it after the community legend. "If you meet Mrs. Bennett, you're going to want to do something for Mrs. Bennet," said Hardaway.

"If you help others with some of their situations, you will live a long and beautiful life," Bennett told FOX 2's Al Allen.
