ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) - A female marine returned home to metro Detroit this week to the warm embrace of family and friends. At only 22 years of age, Sgt. Anica Coate has fought for freedom in both Iraq and Afghanistan and is being honored in a special way.

She has been nominated for a Navy Acheivement Medal after showing extreme bravery in the face of danger. "When one of her friends was shot, she tried to save him while taking enemy fire," said Angela Schonfeld, Anica's sister.

"We pray for her safety every day, and she came back to us," said her father Richard. "We're just as happy as can be."

Coate's return home will be for only 8 days before she returns to the job she loves.
