Officers in Warren end up tasering a toy after a prankster dials 9-1-1. A stuffed animal is at the center of the hoax, but police are not laughing.
The 9-1-1 caller claimed a giant wild cat was on the prowl at Bates Park. He gave police the impression it was a menacing, 150 pound wild animal. So, when officers peered into a concrete pipe where the plush toy was placed, they fired a taser.
"I'm not necessarily embarrassed as much as someone doing this causes public safety to be at a situation where they could be better at other locations in the city serving the public. So, certainly we're pursuing this as far as who was the person responsible for tying up the Warren Police Department's resources," said Police Commissioner William Dwyer.
The situation tied up ten officers, who scrambled to the scene.
The person who called 9-1-1 could face criminal charges.
