A Detroit couple eager to start a family has several reasons to celebrate. This is a story of how expecting isn't always what you expect it to be.

Amber Ali and Andre Whitaker are proud parents with a very interesting story. Like many couples, they had a birth plan, but they were not ready for this.

"First thing I thought was how I'm going to do this," said Andre Whitaker. "How I was going to support them," said Amber Ali.

They were expecting to have one baby, but they ended up having three.

"Felt like a whole bunch of weight just dropped on me," Whitaker said.

"I can't even imagine if someone told me I was having triplets," said Sinai Grace Hospital Physician's Assistant Kimberley Mix.

Neither could Ali, although maybe she should not have been as shocked as she was because she's a triplet. That's right, Amber Ali was a triplet having triplets.

"Naturally conceived triplets... we couldn't believe this is for real," said Mix. What are the odds? "We actually can not find any data," she said.

However, there is more to Ali's story. This triplet is also seeing double. "I have two more sisters and they (are) twins," she said. "So, it runs in the family."

Now add Amir, Armon and Amari to the bunch, and mom can not wait to get her newborn baby boys home. "So I can start dressing them alike," she said. "It's so cute!"

After all, she and her sisters did the same thing, but we are not so sure they want to repeat the three-peat. "After seeing me having triplets, they don't want to take that risk," Ali said.

Three sets of patience and three college funds, but "it's going to be fun," said Whitaker.

The boys will be leaving the hospital in a few weeks, yet there is still a loose end for mom and dad to tie up. "Get married. I just need a ring first," said Ali.

"It's going to be pretty hard to buy a ring. I've got three babies to provide for. Might have to postpone that until after they go to college," Whitaker said.

Their advice to others expecting multiple bundles of joy? "Save up some money," said Whitaker.

Amber and Andre will have help with their new baby when they come here, but they could use more. So, if you would like to triple up on the help and pitch in, call (313) 966-5101 for more information.
