BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The body of a young man was found Tuesday in a wooded area of Brownstown Township. There were no obvious signs of trauma to his body.
The grim discovery was made around Smith Creek. The area is on the border of Flat Rock and Brownstown Township. The body was actually spotted in Brownstown.
"We found the body of a younger, white male in the wooded area. At this time, we're investigating it as a homicide until we rule out anything else," said Brownstown Township Police Lt. Robert Matthews. "There's no obvious signs of violence or any type of cause of death at this time."
Parents told police the 23-year-old man had been missing for about a day. Police will not say how they learned the body was found in the Tangelwood subdivision east of Telegraph Road. For now, they are treating the case as a possible homicide.
"The body was found in the woods, and we don't want to treat it lightly. We want to treat it as the most serious offense so that we conduct a proper investigation," Matthews said.
Police are revealing little about the scene and details in the case. They are waiting for assistance to learn more about the nature of the death.
"We're waiting on the Michigan State Police crime lab to arrive on the scene. They're going to do a thorough search of the area and then we'll take it from there," said Matthews.
