HAMTRAMCK, Mich. - A 21-year-old was shot dead Friday morning in Hamtramck. Police say the shooter sent bullets flying through a quiet neighborhood.

There are bullet holes in the ceiling and the closet door of the bedroom where a Buddhist monk was sleeping. It was 2:00 a.m. when gunfire and violence disrupted the calm inside of the Zen Center on Mitchell Street in Hamtramck.

"I heard a lot of gunshots going off, and it felt like they were right next to me," said Hillary Moga.

A 21-year-old man, who was leaving the nearby Shadow Bar with friends was killed in what police believe was a random drive-by shooting. The bullet ricocheted and hit several houses.

There is even more damage on the street. During the barrage of bullets, several cars were shot up, including a Jeep that has bullet holes in the bumper and the grill.

"We heard cussing and swearing. I went in and called 911 and told them I hear gunshots on my block," said a witness, who was too shaken up to talk on camera.

Police believe the shooter was in a burgundy 2007 or 2008 Chevy Impala with at least three passengers in the car.

The identity of the 21-year-old victim has not been released, and the city manager tells us he is looking into shutting down the Shadow Bar because of all the crime and violence associated with it.
