TARYN ASHER

DETROIT - FOX 2 tried to speak to Monica Conyers Wednesday night at her Detroit home, and she was not happy to see us.

There was a flurry of activity at Monica Conyers' home. People coming and going soon after the self-admitted corrupt former councilwoman was sentenced for her crime of bribery.

As we stood on the sidewalk, we were met be relatives who were leaving and wanted us gone.

It wasn't long after that Conyers pulled up in a Ford Expedition driven by her son. As we crossed the street, we were hoping to get reaction from Conyers about her 37 month sentence. Instead, we got angry insults.

"Can we talk to you, Monica," Taryn Asher asked Conyers.

"You know I don't even like you!... (inaudible)," said Conyers.

"Can we get your reaction to the sentencing? We heard you're going to appeal," Asher said.

"Bet you won't go back to those white people's house. She sure did knock you in the street... didn't she Taryn," Conyers responded.

Conyers was referring to an incident that aired last summer when the wife of an Oxford councilman and her neighbor were caught on tape assaulting Asher and her photographer.

Conyers headed inside her home rather than commenting on tapes she claimed she had that would exonerate her, a reason why she told the federal judge she wanted to withdraw her guilty plea. Coneyrs said in court she didn't want to go to jail for something she didn't do. The judge didn't budge. The guilty plea stood.
