LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan is getting more of the federal aid previously promised to help auto workers hurt by the industry's ongoing struggles.
A $4.1 million installment was announced Monday by U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis during her visit to Michigan.
The money is the last installment of a $6.6 million award from the federal government announced in June 2008.
The money can be used to retrain and assist laid-off auto workers for jobs that are in higher demand.
Also Monday, U.S. senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced Michigan will get more than $5 million to assist workers who have lost jobs due to trade policies. The money comes through the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program.
