LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has appointed a team to review city finances in Ecorse to determine whether a financial emergency exists in the Detroit suburb.

The governor's office announced Monday that the team will report its findings to Granholm within 60 days unless granted a 30-day extension.

The state Department of Treasury reviewed Ecorse's finances in March and determined that a serious financial problem exists in the city. The state says the city faces a number of issues including an inability to distribute property taxes in a timely fashion and internal control deficiencies.

The seven-member team can determine whether a local financial emergency exists, which would open the door to state oversight.
