Cable television food shows are having a love affair with Detroit's Coney Island hot dogs. One channel is back for a third time trying to decide once and for all which is better -- American or Lafayette?

National cable television shows just can't help themselves. They have to come visit Detroit's Coney Island mecca.

"Because it's such a rivalry and such a craziness that it makes for great TV," said Grace Keros of American Coney Island. "It's a lot of fun."

"Amazing Grace" is confident once the show "Food Wars" picks a winner, it will be her place and not Lafayette.

"I'm going to win. It's the best Coney dog hands down. There's no doubt," Keros said.

Which dog is better will be decided by week's end.

"Friday, we have the 'Battle of the Ultimate Coney Dog,'" said Keros. "They will have five panel judges, blindfolded taste test, and the winner will be chosen."

Show host Camille Ford posed for a snapshot, but was so busy taking in the whole Coney experience she wasn't able to speak with us.

Meanwhile, fans of American Coney had praise for their favorite.

"It's all about the snap," said one customer, a reference to the tougher skin on American's hot dogs.

"The food's better here," said another customer. "Better chili (and) better hot dogs."

Next door at Lafayette, busy as usual, the pressure is building.

Thursday, it's Lafayette's turn. Will they represent who's going to win? We're going to have to wait to find out.
