myFOXdetroit.com - Gov. Snyder nailed it. It's some free advice to his presidential pick, the Mitts-ter. Mr. Snyder suggests stopping the dialogue on the Detroit auto bail out.
Or put another way, if you are digging yourself into a hole, stop digging, But everywhere he goes Mitt Romney seems driven to defend his strategy for saving GM and Chrysler. Like a kid, trying to convince his mom he did eat his spinach, Mr. Romney keeps plugging away hoping to convince voters he was the guy who got it right on this issue.
Gov. Snyder told MSNBC the other day, "too much has been played on the auto bailout issue...The question is not what happened but what candidates are going to do to create jobs." Bingo.
Take this to the bank, the average Joe and Josephine in Michigan could care less about how the autos were saved; they are more passionately relieved they have their jobs as a result.
Yet both Mr. Romney and main challenger Rick Santorum revisit the thing ad nauseam. On "Off the Record" the other day, Mr. Santorum regurgitated for the umpteenth time that he was against all bail outs for both Wall Street and the autos. Who gives a hoot?
The fact is, GM is enjoying record profits, Chrysler is hiring more workers and their near death experience is over. Turn the page already.
But he's why they can't break the habit. There's another guy who resides in the White House who will take full credit for saving the industry.
Wouldn't it be refreshing if Messrs Romney and Santorum simply said, way to go Mr. President. We didn't agree with how you did it, that's past history. We're just glad the jobs were saved. What bothers us, Mr. President, is the millions of workers whose jobs have not been saved since you've been in office?
Maybe Mr. Non-Career Politician, Gov. Snyder, should whisper that in the ear of his choice for president in hopes of getting him back on track?
Fox 2 is looking for some good ideas on how to redefine Detroit. Have one?
