PONTIAC, Mich. - A local attorney has a date with a judge, but she was not in court to do her job. She got busted and thrown into jail.

23-year-old Eric Wilamowski was already in trouble and behind bars at the Oakland County Jail for possession of drug paraphernalia. Then his girlfriend showed up for a visit allegedly posing as his attorney.

"The men and women in the jail are very alert to any kind of misrepresentation," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

Nina Backon is a lawyer, but not her boyfriend's attorney. So, when deputies noticed her blowing kisses to the inmate they knew something was up.

"They were aware that... there was a little more than just a professional relationship. So, that put them even on a higher alert," Bouchard said.

Since both were acting suspiciously, Sheriff Bouchard told us his deputies had a feeling Backon was bearing gifts. They searched Wilamowski and found Xanax pills and ten pouches of chewing tobacco.

35-year-old Backon allegedly admitted she smuggled the goods, and now this attorney has found herself on the other side of the law.

"It's sad and obviously she knew that... correctional facilities have rules and policies, which she violated as her professional code of conduct is thrown to the wind, and secondarily, there's laws that were violated," said Bouchard.

If convicted of delivering a controlled substance and contraband to a prisoner, Backon could face up to nine years behind bars at the very least. The sheriff says they are investigating other crimes she may have possibly committed.

"It could have things to do with contraband," Bouchard said. "We're checking into a number of things."

In the meantime, Backon will not be very far from her boyfriend, just cells away inside the county jail.

We are told Backon has two prior convictions for drunk driving and that the couple met at alcohol rehab. The sheriff said a decision on extra charges for her will be made within the next 24 hours.
