ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Jason Lummis is grateful he's alive after being left for dead. He was riding his bike last Wednesday evening in Dexter Twonship when a pick up truck hit him and kept going. With several severe fractures and internal injuries, Jason could only think of his wife, Kathleen, and son, Zachery.
"Saw my bike laying up by the road," said Jason Lummis. "It was just the worse feeling. I'm never going to see my son, my wife. Just laying there."
Jason works at Great Lakes Cycling in Ann Arbor, and he's an avid cyclist. He was riding to his home in Pinckney when he was hit. Jason says many drivers pay little or no attention to people on bikes.
"(Tried to) take my life away from me. For what? Then they run. They hit you and they run. Why are people so shallow? Just incredibly horrifying," Jason Lummis said.
The truck that hit Jason, possibly an older model Ford, has or had damage to the passenger side mirror.
"I really can't believe somebody's walking around living their daily life and breathing and acting like nothing happened. I don't understand how you could do that? You hit somebody. You know you hit somebody, and you left them for dead," said Kathleen Lummis.
Jason has a long road to recovery, but he intends to get healthy in a hurry and back on his bike.
"It's been hard, but we're in a good place at U of M. They've taken great care of us. I'd like to thank everybody for their support. It's been overwhelming and amazing and we're so blessed, and we thank you so much," Kathleen Lummis said.
A trust for Jason Lummis has been setup at the Lake Trust Credit Union. Their address is 8600 Grand River, Brighton, MI 48116. You can donate by stopping by the branch office or by sending them a check made out to "Jason Lummis". Call the credit union at (810) 220-1305 for more information.
