Cass Tech Student Collapses in School, Later Dies

DETROIT - An unexpected death at Cass Tech High School has everyone in shock. A well known senior collapsed in the stairwell of the school and died a short time later. Now family, friends, and peers mourn the loss.

Arieal Lombard passed out shortly after 8 a.m. this morning while climbing the stairs, she later died at the hospital.

Dr. James Ray, the school's Regional Superintendent, tells FOX 2 that Lombard, a senior at the high school, collapsed in a stairway during the morning hours and was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital where she passed away.

She was active student and a member of the national honor society, pep club, academic games, the softball team, a senior advisor and a transition buddy.

Twitter messages posted Tuesday morning say that students gathered in the high school's Grand Theatre to grieve and mourn the loss.

The cause of her death is still unknown.
