SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - "He always helped people out," said Lyvonne Cargill.
Her son's been gone for almost a year now, but this mother's pain hasn't dulled a bit.
17-year-old Je'rean Blake was killed on Detroit's east side last April. His murder sparked the manhunt that led to the raid where little Aiyana Jones was accidentally shot and killed.
Monday, Blake's alleged killer took a deal. 34-year-old Chauncey Owens will be sentenced to 30 years in prison.
As part of his sentence, he will have to tell a judge who gave him the gun he reportedly used to kill Blake. There are plenty who believe that gun came from Charles Jones, Aiyana's father.
"I'm satisfied for now until they get the rest of them, whoever was in the car, whoever passed him the gun and everything else. They (are) going to get all of them," Cargill said.
However, the sad reality is that while this sentence gives Blake's family some closure, it doesn't change the fact that the young man's life was cut short for absolutely no reason.
Owens will be sentenced on May second.
