DETROIT (WJBK) - Two babies are fighting for their lives -- the innocent victims of a firebombing. Police believe a domestic dispute may have sparked the attack. The mother of the two children says her ex-boyfriend threatened to hurt the entire family. Now, two little girls are badly burned and investigators are looking for that ex-boyfriend.

"Because I didn't want to be with him anymore, and I put him out of my house," said Vanessa Thomas. "He came back and said he was going to burn... the whole family up."

Vanessa Thomas said she broke up with her 20-year-old boyfriend, Brandon Jones, then told police that Jones made threats.

Arson investigators told her that someone came to the home on Rutherford in northwest Detroit at 6:30 Wednesday morning and tossed a Molotov cocktail into the basement window. Fire ripped through the house. Vanessa was not there, but her sister, Jasmine, was inside the home with her two young daughters and two young nieces.

"They (we're) in a room right across the hall from me, but I couldn't find them or go in there because it was so smokey, and my kids (were) calling me and I'm like, 'Wait, just lay on the floor,'" said Jasmine Thomas.

Jasmine said she got her two and three-year-old daughters out safely. As she heard fire engines coming from blocks away, a neighbor rescued her ten-month-old niece, Adriana, who was critically burned. However, her two-year-old niece, Kyra, was still inside. She was also critically burned.

"I'm like, 'Just get the babies out.' So, he lift the window up and he pulled the baby out of the room, and she weren't breathing," Jasmine Thomas said. "The fire department... came and got baby Kaya."

Investigators said they want to find Brandon Jones to talk with him about this fire. Three of Jones' friends were brought in for questioning during the day on Wednesday. Vanessa Thomas said her dating relationship with Jones was fiery.

"We had an incident before where our bushes had caught on fire. We stomped the bushes out. ... We tried to set each other on fire. He tried to set me on fire, then the bushes caught on fire and that was it," said Vanessa Thomas. "We broke up this year."

The girls were taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital and later moved to Children's Hospital. Kyra has regained consciousness, but Adriana currently remains unconscious.
