PONTIAC, Mich. - A spat on the social networking site Facebook may have lead to an accident that killed a 21-year old. Another woman was critically injured in the crash. It happened near Woodward and Rapid Street in Pontiac Wednesday afternoon.
Inside a Ford Taurus, the driver, 21-year-old Alesha Abernathy, is dead. The passenger, 23-year-old Danielle Booth, has life threatening head injuries.
"It did not involve Alesha. Her life was taken for somebody else's beef," said Vicki Carritti, a friend of the victim.
The young women smashed into a dump truck as they were trying to outrun 23-year-old Torrie Emery, who was allegedly chasing them, ramming their car and after Booth over a Facebook fight.
"It's very tragic. She's just a very young girl and for this Facebook feud stuff, to me that's uncalled for," Carritti said.
It's rumored Booth and Emory were fighting over some guy who is in prison. Pontiac Police say they traded insults over Facebook, and, on Tuesday, Booth filed a police report because Emery had come to her house and threatened her.
"She was threatening to do harm to her," said Pontiac Police Sgt. Kevin Braddock.
Then Wednesday afternoon, the young women spotted each other at McDonald's. Emery allegedly chased Abernathy and Booth. They were headed for the Pontiac Police Department and called 911 before crashing.
A Pontiac Police detective going the opposite direction saw the accident and chased and arrested Emery. Turns out she had her three-year-old daughter in the car with her that entire time. She was not hurt.
"Kind of awful and a shame that something so senseless had to occur over (an) altercation on Facebook," Braddock said.
Emory, who has an extensive criminal history of retail fraud, disorderly conduct, obstructing police, forgery and carrying a concealed weapon, will be charged Friday with second-degree murder, assault and child abuse.
