GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -- Mourners gathered late into the afternoon Tuesday to remember Jane Bashara, who was described as a remarkable woman.
"Everyone loved Jane Bashara," said Congressman Hansen Clarke, who is also a family friend of the Basharas. He was at the church to pay his respects to Jane Bashara less than a week after she was discovered murdered in her SUV on Pinewood in Detroit.
"It's difficult right now because of the allegations regarding the husband, but I'm not here to judge that situation. I was here to support the family," he explained.
Jane Bashara was a marketing executive. She used to work at DTE Energy. Her former co-workers and friends were some of the hundreds who came to say goodbye one last time.
"She was going to go work in the business. They thought they were financially set, and because of the downturn, what she said is he lost his business and she had to go back to work," said Larry Kaufman.
We're told Bob Bashara was openly sobbing at the funeral. He is the lone person of interest in the case. Police told us questioning will likely resume now that the funeral is over.
Jane Bashara was the mother to Robert, Junior, who came from out of state, and Jessica, a college student at the University of Michigan.
"Something like this, it's hard to explain to a loved one why your mother would die like this. See, I can't explain it either as a Christian," Clarke said.
If you would like to make a contribution, the Bashara family is asking that you do so to the St. Michael Episcopal Church Organ Fund or the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe.
