Grosse Pointe Park Woman Found Murdered Was Strangled

Her Husband Speaks with FOX 2

"It's just unthinkable that this happened to her and what she had to suffer. I am just so upset about it," said Bob Bashara.

Just a day after his wife was found murdered, he was questioned by detectives. Bashara came in voluntarily.

"They were very pleasant. They have a job to do, and I want to help them find whoever did this to my wife," he explained.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirmed what so many had already assumed. 56-year-old Jane Bashara was murdered. The ME says she was strangled.

Her body was discovered early Wednesday morning in the back seat of her Mercedes-Benz left in an alley a world away from her upscale Grosse Pointe Park neighborhood. However, it all started around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday when Mr. Bashara says he realized his wife wasn't home.

"When I walked in the house, I thought she was in the house somewhere, and it wasn't until I went up and changed and then searched through the house and then went out in the garage to see her car was gone that I knew that she was out," he said. "I, quite frankly, thought she was running an errand."

More than an hour passed and Jane Bashara still hadn't made it back home.

"It got to be 9:00, 9:30 and she wasn't answering her phone. I became very concerned," said Bob Bashara. "I called the police after awhile and said I think there may be something going on here."

He was right, and now detectives from Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit are trying to solve a case that has far more questions than answers.

"They're not speculating and they have no clue. Their investigation is just beginning they said," Bashara told us.

Bashara says he has no problem talking to detectives.

"They said [they usually] start closest to the home and then spread out," he explained. "I'm doing what I need to do to cooperate with the authorities, to find who did this to my wife."

Bashara says right now, finding his wife's killer is all that matters.

"If anyone knows anything, come forward and cooperate," he said.

Grosse Pointe Park's police chief told us nobody has been named as a suspect or person of interest, and right now this case is wide open and detectives are looking at every single possibility.
