Author and Columnist Jeffrey Zaslow Laid to Rest

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- "His gift to this world is just irreplaceable," said Max Reichstein.

His life and words touched so many. Monday, hundreds said goodbye to Jeffrey Zaslow. The 53-year-old author, husband and father was killed in a car accident near Elmira on Friday morning.

Reichstein knew Zaslow only for his many columns and books. He said losing him is like losing a best friend.

"He was just a brilliant, brilliant author. He was one of the nicest guys in the whole world," Reichstein told us.

That sentiment was echoed throughout the private service. It showcased his many different relationships as a father, husband, son, brother, college roommate and author.

Captain Sully Sullenberger spoke of his admiration for Zaslow, who co-authored the captain's memoirs after he heroically landed a jetliner in the Hudson River.

Zaslow's life was all about making meaningful connections to the people around us. He's remembered as a man who showed the world how to live with passion and love, and there was no one he loved more than his daughters Jordan, Alex and Eden and his wife of more than 24 years -- FOX 2's Sherry Margolis.

He left behind a remarkable legacy and his work and life will continue to inspire us all for many years to come.

"My job as a father is not to tell my daughters what dress to wear, not to tell them what to do. My job is to tell my girls that I love them and Sherry that I love her too, obviously," Zaslow told FOX 2's Lee Thomas in January. "We've got to hug our kids, and we've got to make the most of each moment because you never know."
