ROMEO, Mich. - Authorities say a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy is one of several people suspected of embezzling money from the Romeo Lions Club.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says the unidentified deputy remains on the job, but in a new assignment.

Wickersham tells the Detroit Free Press that Romeo police are handling the investigation and his department will wait until the probe either takes a turn or a warrant has been issued before moving to the "next level."
No further details were released.

Authorities say the club contacted police about two weeks ago. Police say there are multiple suspects, including a sheriff's office employee. A message seeking comment was left with the Lions Club by the Free Press.
