REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Police have nabbed a man accused of targeting elderly women and preying on their fear.
"All the ladies that have been reported have been between 66 and 90 years of age," said Redford Police Det. Sgt. Kevin Crittenden. (They) seem to be targeted due to the fact that they are elderly and are alone."
Late Monday afternoon, police made an arrest in the case. They believe the crime started last Tuesday. The first victim was robbed and nearly raped inside her own home. We spoke with the 66-year-old and agreed not to show her face.
"I gave him some money. He said he was going to rape me. He threw me on the bed. He tore... down my pants and my underwear, and I said I'll give you some more money if you leave me alone," said the victim.
Since then police believe the suspect targeted three other elderly women, two of them just Sunday night. They live in neighborhoods near West Chicago and Telegraph. The man tried to gain his victims' trust with an innocent sounding request.
"Suspect has been approaching elderly residents asking them for help and using their phone or something similar," Crittenden said.
Police tell us the last few times, the suspect left before harming anyone.
His name is not currently being released. He's facing home invasion and robbery charges and is expected to be arraigned later this week.
