MILFORD, Mich. (WJBK) - SkyFOX captured images of the recovery scene in Milford. Built out of an old gravel pit, a new subdivision features a 35 acre lake.
Men who work for a carpet cleaning company were at the home of the company owner. The work crew went for a swim. 36-year-old Harry Lockhart jumped off a dock and dove into the water. Lockhart's co-workers say he went under and did not resurface.
"We were swimming. He (dove) in and I guess he ran out of breath," said co-worker Tony Green. "We couldn't find him for like an hour."
A Milford firefighter, who's a rescue diver, searched for Lockhart under water. He was soon joined by members of the Oakland County Dive Team.
The 9-1-1 call came in at 4:20 p.m. Lockhart's body was recovered approximately 45 minutes later just after 5:00 p.m. He was rushed to Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, but sadly could not be revived. Lockhart was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"He knew how to swim. That's why I don't understand what happened," Green said.
"We see kids out here all the time and because it's a nice, quiet lake, they think they can swim it easily," said Peggy Pagliaroni. "It's further than you think across, and we see kids all the time going from one side to the other and you can tell by the time they get towards shore that they're struggling."
